Khimār — head cover

In Qurʾānic Arabic, a Khimār is a woman’s head cover or headscarf. (In modern Arabic, however, Khimār refers to a specific style of head cover.)

In the Qurʾān 24:31, Muslim women are told to draw the loose ends of their headscarves over their neck and cleavage when in public. No head cover is required in the company of other women and girls, nor with male relatives, nor with men who have no sexual desire for women.
