Makrūh — disliked, frowned upon, offensive

Makrūh things are technically allowed but are not recommended. A Muslim will avoid them when possible.

  • makrūh tanzīhan: mildly disliked, somewhat disliked

Examples of Makrūh actions

  • Not praying at the first minute you can, i.e. praying at the late end of the window period
  • Using too much water during the hygiene ritual
  • Smoking tobacco
