Qadr — destiny, predestination, fate, measuring out; what Allāh has arranged or set up

Ultimately, it is Allāh who determines everything, lines everything up perfectly according to Allāh’s will. Both what we consider to be good and what we consider to be bad. Everything is from Allāh.

He (Allah) knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them (in the Hereafter), and they will never compass anything of His Knowledge. Surah Ta-Ha: 20:110

  • No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah , is easy. 57:22
  • No misfortune can happen, either in the earth or in yourselves, that was not set down in writing before We brought it into being- that is easy for God- 57:22
  • Do you not know that Allah knows what is in the heaven and earth? Indeed, that is in a Record. Indeed that, for Allah , is easy. 22:70
  • Allah knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, but they do not encompass it in knowledge. 20:110

qaddara قدّر = to arrange (for), to set up, prepare, lay out, plan (out), determine line up, put in place, have in store, plan out, establish

  • Allāh made [...] the moon a derived light and set up its phases 10:5
  • Allāh had set up that [Lut’s wife] be one of those staying behind 15:60
  • Allāh has created each thing and set it up [with precision]. 25:2
  • Make full coats of mail and set up the links [with precision] 34:11
  • Indeed, he thought and was setting things up. 74:18
  • Clear silver glasses of [drink] they had set up 76:16
  • Allāh creates and prepares the human being out of a drop of sperm 80:19
