Raḍiya (رَّضِىَ) — to be satisfied, content, pleased

Umm Salamah (may Allāh be pleased with her) reported, “Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ said, ‘Whichever woman passes away while her husband is pleased with her, she shall enter paradise.’” (Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī 1161)

Riḍwān (رِضْوَٰن) — approval, consent, acceptance, approval, contentment

Raḍī (رَضِيّ) — satisfied, content; pleasant, agreeable

  • In jannah, people with taqwá will have eternal reward of Allāh being content with them and they with Allāh 98:8
  • Jannah is better than this life. Content there. 93:4-5
  • And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the An§ar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment. 9:100
  • And among them are some who criticize you concerning the [distribution of] charities. If they are given from them, they approve; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry. If only they had been satisfied with what Allah and His Messenger gave them and said, "Sufficient for us is Allah ; Allah will give us of His bounty, and [so will] His Messenger; indeed, we are desirous toward Allah ," [it would have been better for them]. 9:58-59

Who is not happy, pleased, satisfied?

  • Jews and Christians about Muḥammad 2:120
  • Allāh with the words of people who hide and plot at night 4:108
  • If you are ungrateful, remember God has no need of you, yet He is not pleased by ingratitude in His servants; if you are grateful, He is pleased [to see] it in you. No soul will bear another’s burden. You will return to your Lord in the end and He will inform you of what you have done: He knows well what is in the depths of [your] hearts. 39:7

Who is happy, pleased, satisfied?

  • Muḥammad happy about qiblah 2:144
  • person writing a contract happy about female witnesses 2:282
  • Allāh with Islam as our religion 5:3
  • People in jannah with Allāh and Allāh with people in jannah 5:119
  • disbelievers in the Hereafter with the alluring words of evil humans and jinn 6:113

  • believers with the life of this world over the Afterlife 9:38
  • Muslims with receiving their share of sadaqah (resentful when not receiving) 9:58
  • Muslims should be with what Allāh and Muḥammad gave them 9:59

  • Allāh with the Emigrants and the Helpers, and them with Allāh 9:100
  • those who entertain no hope of meeting Allāh with the life of this world 10:7

  • those who migrated in God’s way and were killed or died, with place Allāh provides them 22:59

  • We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents: his mother bore him, in pain and in pain she gave birth to him, and his bearing and weaning takes thirty months. At length, when he reaches the age of full maturity and attains forty years, he says, ‘O my Lord! Help me to be grateful for Your favours which You have bestowed upon me, and upon both my parents, and to do good deeds that will please You. Grant me righteousness in my offspring. Truly, I have turned to You and, truly, I submit to You.’ 46:15
  • God was pleased with the believers when they swore allegiance to you [Prophet] under the tree: He knew what was in their hearts and so He sent tranquillity down to them and rewarded them with a speedy triumph 48:18

  • There are others who insult the Prophet by saying, ‘He will listen to anything.’ Say, ‘He listens for your own good: he believes in God, trusts the believers, and is a mercy for those of you who believe.’ An agonizing torment awaits those who insult God’s Messenger. They swear by God in order to please you [believers]: if they were true believers it would be more fitting for them to please God and His Messenger. 9:62

  • God has made a promise to those among you who believe and do good deeds: He will make them successors to the land, as He did those who came before them; He will empower the religion He has chosen for them; He will grant them security to replace their fear. ‘They will worship Me and not join anything with Me.’ Those who are defiant after that will be the rebels.-24:55

  • [Prophet], say, ‘Would you like me to tell you of things that are better than all of these? Their Lord will give those who are mindful of God Gardens graced with flowing streams, where they will stay with pure spouses and God’s good pleasure- God is fully aware of His servants- 3:15
  • Can one who seeks the pleasure of God, be like one who incurs the wrath of God and whose abode shall be Hell—an evil destination? 3:162
  • Those who, on being told that, ‘the enemy has gathered against you a great force, so fear them,’ only grew stronger in their faith and replied, ‘God is sufficient for us. He is the best guardian.’ They returned home with God’s favour and blessings, without having been touched by evil; for they pursued God’s pleasure. And God’s bounty is infinite. 3:174

  • whereby God guides to the ways of peace all who seek His good pleasure, bringing them from darkness to the light, by His will, and guiding them to a straight path. 5:16
  • Those who have believed and have migrated, and have striven for God’s sake with their possessions and persons, stand much higher in God’s esteem. It is they who will triumph; their Lord gives them the good news of His mercy and His pleasure and gardens of eternal bliss. 9:21
  • God has promised the believers, both men and women, Gardens through which rivers flow, wherein they will abide, and fine dwelling places in Gardens of eternity. But the good pleasure of God is greater still. That is the supreme achievement. 9:72
  • Which is better, the person who founds his building on consciousness of God and desire for His good pleasure, or the person who founds his building on the brink of a crumbling precipice that will tumble down into the Fire of Hell, taking him with it? God does not guide the evildoers: 9:109
  • Those who turn on their heels after being shown guidance are duped and tempted by Satan; they say to those who hate what God has sent down, ‘We will obey you in some matters’––God knows their secret schemes. How will they feel when the angels take them in death and beat their faces and their backs because they practised things that incurred God’s wrath, and disdained to please Him? He makes their deeds go to waste. 47:28
  • Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Those who follow him are harsh towards the disbelievers and compassionate towards each other. You see them kneeling and prostrating, seeking God’s bounty and His good pleasure: on their faces they bear the marks of their prostrations. This is how they are pictured in the Torah and the Gospel: like a seed that puts forth its shoot, becomes strong, grows thick, and rises on its stem to the delight of its sowers. So God infuriates the disbelievers through them; God promises forgiveness and a great reward to those who believe and do righteous deeds.48:29
  • Know that the life of this world is nothing more than fun and games; an alluring show of boasting and accumulating wealth and children. Its example is like plentiful vegetation (growing) after a constant rain - a delight to the gardener! However, it soon withers, and you see it turning yellow; then it crumbles into dust. In the next life, there’s either stem punishment or forgiveness from God and His good pleasure. Now what is the life of this world but the illusion of material goods? 57:20
  • We sent other messengers to follow in their footsteps. After those We sent Jesus, son of Mary: We gave him the Gospel and put compassion and mercy into the hearts of his followers. But monasticism was something they invented- We did not ordain it for them- only to seek God’s pleasure, and even so, they did not observe it properly. So We gave a reward to those of them who believed, but many of them were lawbreakers. 57:27
  • The poor emigrants who were driven from their homes and possessions, who seek God’s favour and approval, those who help God and His Messenger- these are the ones who are true- [shall have a share]. 59:8
  • I fear [what] my kinsmen [will do] when I am gone, for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor––a gift from You–– to be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him well pleasing [to You].’19:6
  • There are those among people who give their lives to seek God's pleasure. God is Affectionate to His servants. 2:207
  • But those who spend their wealth in order to gain God’s approval, and to strengthen their souls are like a garden on elevated ground. When heavy rain falls on it, it doubles its produce; and if heavy rain does not fall, then light rain suffices. God sees what you do. 2:265
  • There is no good in most of their secret talk, except in the case of those who enjoin charity and kindness, or reconciliation between people. If anyone does that, seeking the pleasure of God, We will give him an immense reward. 4:114
  • You who believe, do not take My enemies and yours as your allies, showing them friendship when they have rejected the truth you have received, and have driven you and the Messenger out simply because you believe in God, your Lord––not if you truly emigrated in order to strive for My cause and seek My good pleasure. You secretly show them friendship––I know all you conceal and all you reveal–– but any of you who do this are straying from the right path. 60:1
  • Prophet, why do you prohibit what God has made lawful to you in your desire to please your wives? Yet God is forgiving and merciful 66:1
  • On that Day there will also be faces radiant with bliss, well pleased with their labour, 88:9
  • Serene soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 89:28
  • Anyone who is given his Record in his right hand will say, ‘Here is my Record, read it. I knew I would meet my Reckoning,’ and so he will have a pleasant life in a lofty Garden, with clustered fruit within his reach. 69:21
  • the one whose good deeds are heavy on the scales will have a pleasant life 101:7
