The months in bold are considered blessed:

1 Muḥarram محرم Forbidden Month no fighting allowed, includes the Day of Ashura
2 Ṣafar صفر Month of Empty Houses because pagan Arabs looted during this month and left the houses empty?
3 Rabīʿ al-Awwal ربيع الأول Spring Month I
4 Rabīʿ al-Thānī ربيع الثاني Spring Month II
5 Jumādá al-Ūlá جمادى الأوى Dry Month I
6 Jumādá al-Thāniya جمادى الثانية Dry Month II
  1. Rajab رجب — Month of Honour/Respect (no fighting allowed)
  2. Shaʿbān شعبان — Month of Spreading Out (scatter, disperse to go find water)
  3. Ramaḍān — رمضان, — Month of Intense Heat (most blessed month of the year, fasting occurs)
  4. Shawwāl شوال — Month of Tail-Raising (she-camels do this after giving birth)
  5. Dhū al-Qaʿdah ذو القعدة — Month of Truce (no fighting allowed)
  6. Dhū al-Ḥijjah — ذو الحجّة, — Month of Pilgrimage, includes Day of ʿArafah
