The Qurʾān

Chapter 102

Verse 1

Abdel Haleem Striving for more distracts you
Yusuf Ali The mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things),
W. Khan Greed for more and more distracted you [from God]
M. Sarwar The desire to have more of the worldly gains have pre-occupied you so much (that you have neglected remembring God),

Verse 2

Abdel Haleem until you go into your graves.
Yusuf Ali Until ye visit the graves.
W. Khan till you reached the grave.
M. Sarwar until you come to the graves.

Verse 3

Abdel Haleem No indeed! You will come to know.
Yusuf Ali But nay, ye soon shall know (the reality).
W. Khan But you will soon come to know.
M. Sarwar You shall know.

Verse 4

Abdel Haleem No indeed! In the end you will come to know.
Yusuf Ali Again, ye soon shall know!
W. Khan But you will soon come to know.
M. Sarwar You shall cetainly know (about the consequences of your deeds).

Verse 5

Abdel Haleem No indeed! If only you knew for certain.
Yusuf Ali Nay, were ye to know with certainty of mind, (ye would beware!)
W. Khan Indeed, were you to know the truth with certainty,
M. Sarwar You will certainly have the knowledge of your deeds beyond all doubt.

Verse 6

Abdel Haleem You will most definitely see Hellfire,
Yusuf Ali Ye shall certainly see Hell-Fire!
W. Khan you would see the fire of Hell.
M. Sarwar You will be shown hell

Verse 7

Abdel Haleem you will see it with the eye of certainty.
Yusuf Ali Again, ye shall see it with certainty of sight!
W. Khan You would see it with the eye of certainty.
M. Sarwar and you will see it with your own eyes.

Verse 8

Abdel Haleem On that Day, you will be asked about your pleasures.
Yusuf Ali Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!).
W. Khan Then on that Day you shall be questioned about your worldly favours.
M. Sarwar Then, on that day, you will be questioned about the bounties (of God).
