Chapter 111: al-Masad — The Palm Fibre

also called al-Lahab اﻟﻠﻬﺐ‎

high-profile power couple. huge h8er. neighbour of messenger. he's uncle of muhammad. but afraid of messenger's dua. thinks Islam should be destroyed. thinks of himself as so high. Abū Lahab. wealthy. coward, gets his debptors to fight for him. he died of swellings disease over his body, infectious, his family ran away. died in pain slowly. skin popping. corpse lying there. ppl afraid to touch it. hired abyssinians to get logs of wood to push it into ditch. allah's words came to fruition. slow painful destruction. powerhouse rich celebrity couple. horrible neighbour. first to curse rasul allah.

  1. The life’s work of Abū Lahab shall be wasted. May both hands of Abū Lahab be destroyed. will surely be destroyed. break apart slowly, collapse. *deteriorate*. slow painful. like old age. fall apart with old age. become frail. progressive loss towards destruction. slow and steady destruction. slow but sure destruction. food goes bad. to go to waste. rot away. because actions done with hands. everything he does will end in destruction, bear him no good. both hands = he and everything he does. deeds. won't be able to attack and defend. crippled soldier. both hands. normally to give a nickname is act of respect. abu lahab compliments his good looks. or maybe his hot temper. allah doesn't dignify him saying he's the slave of a false god (his real name). because his name relates to his punishment. no longer because he looks good. Mr. Red hot. flame. may it happen, and it will, bound, guaranteed to happen.
  2. his wealth/riches (false god) won't benefit/help/be_of_use him. his wealth will help him at all. guarantee of the future. (past tense) i don't care how much money you have. no matter how much you earn, your kids, sons earn. nor your children will come to any benefit. (not his wearth. what you earn. one is you already have. savings without working. and also what you work for to acquire) neither will be of any help. his hands were being used to spend money against rasul allah. the cause of trying to harm rasul allah. not even any future good deeds will come to nothing. his wealth and good looks. disease of the skin hurt his looks.
  3. a fire that possesses a red flame, sarcasm, you like to be known for red flame. very soon he will be chucked into a flame, quality of red, he will be thrown ....
  4. and so will his wife, the carrier (keeps on carrying) of firewood like a slave-woman. what is the fuel that will give it that redness. her punishment is to carry it. fire he'll rot in. she used to cause fire between people, i.e. gossip trash talk.

Verse 1

Abdel Haleem May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined! May he be ruined too!
Yusuf Ali Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he!
W. Khan May the hands of Abu Lahab perish, may he be ruined.
M. Sarwar May the hands of Abu Lahab perish!

Verse 2

Abdel Haleem Neither his wealth nor his gains will help him:
Yusuf Ali No profit to him from all his wealth, and all his gains!
W. Khan Neither his wealth nor his gains will avail him.
M. Sarwar May he too perish!

Verse 3

Abdel Haleem he will burn in the Flaming Fire––
Yusuf Ali Burnt soon will he be in a Fire of Blazing Flame!
W. Khan He shall soon enter a Blazing Fire,
M. Sarwar His property and worldly gains will be of no help to him.

Verse 4

Abdel Haleem and so will his wife, the firewood-carrier,
Yusuf Ali His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood - As fuel!-
W. Khan and also his wife who carries the fuel,
M. Sarwar He will suffer in a blazing fire

Verse 5

Abdel Haleem with a palm-fibre rope around her neck.
Yusuf Ali A twisted rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck!
W. Khan with a rope of twisted fibre round her neck.
M. Sarwar and so too will his wife who (threw thorns and firewood in the Prophet's way). Around her neck will be a rope of palm fibre.
