Chapter 94: al-Sharḥ

Verse 1

Abdel Haleem Did We not relieve your heart for you [Prophet],
Yusuf Ali Have We not expanded thee thy breast?-
W. Khan Have We not lifted up your with every hardship there is ease; heart,
M. Sarwar (Muhammad), have We not comforted your heart,

Verse 2

Abdel Haleem and remove the burden
Yusuf Ali And removed from thee thy burden
W. Khan and removed your burden
M. Sarwar relieved you of the burden

Verse 3

Abdel Haleem that weighed so heavily on your back,
Yusuf Ali The which did gall thy back?-
W. Khan surely, with every hardship there
M. Sarwar which had been a heavy weight upon your back

Verse 4

Abdel Haleem and raise your reputation high?
Yusuf Ali And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)?
W. Khan that weighed so heavily on your is ease.
M. Sarwar and granted you an exalted reputation?

Verse 5

Abdel Haleem So truly where there is hardship there is also ease;
Yusuf Ali So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief:
W. Khan So, when you are free, back, and
M. Sarwar After every difficulty there is relief.

Verse 6

Abdel Haleem truly where there is hardship there is also ease.
Yusuf Ali Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.
W. Khan have We not given strive hard,
M. Sarwar Certainly, after every difficulty there comes relief.

Verse 7

Abdel Haleem The moment you are freed [of one task] work on,
Yusuf Ali Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard,
W. Khan and to your Lord you high renown?
M. Sarwar When you are free from (your obligations), strive hard (to worship God)

Verse 8

Abdel Haleem and turn to your Lord for everything.
Yusuf Ali And to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention.
W. Khan So, surely turn [all] your attention.
M. Sarwar and be devoted to your Lord's service.
